Indignados

First big demonstration of Indignados in Plaza de Sol, Madrid.  In May of 2011 thousands of people gathered in the sqaure to protest against the whole system that led Spain and other countries to the present crisis. The term indingado was adopted after the title of a book by Stéphane Hessel, a french intellectual, who wrote about the injustices we are living, and how he would expect the younger generations to react against the financial dictatorship. People occupied the square for weeks, defying the police, who tried to dissolve the occupation, arguing that no political act was allowed 24 hours before any elections. The occupation went on during and well after regional elections.
